제목 Reversible Origami Folding of Hydrogel Bilayer Microparticles for Robust Microcarriers
초록 Microcapsules for transport and controlled release have long been studied because of the high demand for practical delivery systems in the pharmaceutics and cosmetics fields. Multiphase emulsion drops have provided efficient templates for microcapsules, and various feasible methods have been developed for controlled release. However, the emulsion-based approach has limitations for the in situ control of membrane permeability. In this study, we report a facile method for creating bilayer microparticles which exhibit structural transformation to microcapsules by anisotropic volume expansion. Planar hydrogel microparticles, consisting of active layer and passive layer, can readily transform to 3D microcapsule by 2D bending of the bilayer when active layer swells at specific environment. Therefore, hydrogel bilayer structures enable in-situ encapsulation of micro- to nano-scopic active ingredients by a reversible transformation to microcapsules with a closed compartment.
