Adsorption of reactive dyes on chitosan based composites |

Reactive dyes have been widely used for making thread, fabrics and clothes. As a result, the wastewaters from such dying industries always contains a certain amount of dyes, which cause many environmental and public health problems. In this study, chitosan and chitosan based composites were prepared and applied for the removal of reactive dyes by adsorption. The average molecular weight and deacetylation of chitosan were 8×10^5 and 85%, respectively. The physico-chemical properties of composite were analyzed by SEM, FT-IR and nitrogen adsorption-desorption measurements. The batch adsorption studies of reactive dyes on chitosan based composites were studied and several adsorption isotherm equations such as Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips were used to explain the adsorption equilibrium isotherm results. Furthermore, the Gibbs free energy, entropy and enthalpy were determined to study the thermodynamic relationships between the dye and the adsorbent. |
