Preparation of metal impregnated activated carbons using RF plasma process and its adsorption behaviors of volatile organic compounds |

In this work, two different types of impregnated activated carbons (i.e., Mn and Mn/Ag) were prepared by applying RF plasma process. Then their adsorption and catalytic oxidation behavior for VOCs were studied in a continuous fixed bed system. The textural and surface properties of the ACs and metal impregnated ACs were investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray, transmission electron microscopy, temperature programmed desorption, nitrogen adsorption analysis and adsorption energy distribution function. The characterization results revealed that RF plasma process can be a useful technique to impregnate the metals on the ACs. Moreover, the metal impregnated ACs exhibited the good adsorption performances at the same experimental concentrations compared to that of the untreated ACs. This results can be explained by their larger surface area and metal components related to catalytic oxidation. |
