Noble silver nanoparticles embedded porous TiO2 nanofibers (Ag@pTiO2 NFs) are introduced in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) for increased power conversion efficiency (PCE). The Ag@pTiO2 NFs are synthesized by facile electrospinning method, etching process and chemical reduction. The porosity of the porous TiO2 nanofibers (pTiO2 NFs) is controlled by the amount of SiO2 in electrospun TiO2/SiO2 composite NFs. The pTiO2 NFs with a high surface area of 163 m2¬ g-1, provided sufficient adsorption of dye on TiO2 for light harvesting. Moreover, localized surface plasmon resonance from Ag@pTiO2 NFs increases light absorption by trapping the incident light. As a result, the PCE of Ag@pTiO2 NFs-based DSSCs was improved by 42 %, i.e., from 6.2 % to 8.8 %. |
