제목 Strain development of Klebsiella pneumoniae for diols production and its pilot-scale application
초록 Glycerol is one of the most economic carbon sources for industrial fermentation since it is a massive byproduct of the biodiesel industry, yielding about 10 wt% of biodiesel. Klebsiella pneumoniae converts glycerol to 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PD) and 2,3-butanediol (2,3-BD). However, various byproducts, including lactic acid, ethanol, acetic acid, succinic acid, and formic acid, formed in the oxidative pathway, lower the yields of the diols. K. pneumoniae strain was improved by deleting the ldhA and mdh genes based on in silico analysis. The K. pneumoniae ΔldhA Δmdh strain produced 125 g/L of diols (2.0 g/L/h) in the lab-scale fermentation and 114 g/L of diols (2.2 g/L/h) in pilot-scale fermentation (5000-L).
