Dendritic Hybrid Polymer as a Novel Carrier of Bioactive Agents |

Diblock and 4-arm star copolymers consisting of linear and hyperbranched blocks were synthesized. Diblock copolymers with PEG-based hydrophilic block and hydrophobic poly(THF) block were self-associated in aqueous solution to form a micellar structure above critical micelle concentration(CMC). 4-Arm star copolymers did not show CMC and displayed the characteristics of unimolecular micelle. Unimolecular micelle leads to the increased stability in the blood stream compared with polymeric micelles due to the absence of CMC. The sizes of synthesized diblock and 4-arm star copolymers measured by dynamic light scattering in water were 120nm and 92nm. Pyrene loading efficiency to 4-arm star copolymers was 46%, 11% higher than that of diblock copolymers. 4-Arm star copolymers had sustained release profile in comparison to diblock copolymers. |
