Purification and Characterization of Alginate Sponge for the Application of Regenerative Medicine |

Alginate is a natural polymer that is frequently used in biomedical applications. But this caused immune rejection in the body. To get over this problem, we have developed using modifed Korbutt’s method for alginate purification. NIH/3T3 cells were seeded in purified and non-purified alginate sponges. Cell viability analyzed by MTT assay after 1, 3 and 5 days. Cell proliferation and cell morphology analyzed by SEM assay after 1, 3 and 5 days. The physical property of alginate sponge was measured by swelling ratio. The MTT and SEM results showed that the cellular viability, proliferation and morphology were excellent on purified alginate sponges. The swelling ratio results showed that the alginate sponge is suitable materials for application in the body. This result indicates that purified alginate sponge might be ellective for cell differentiation environment. This research was supported by WCU (R31-20029) and XRC (A040004). |
