Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in all types of electronic equipments. Al anode foil, which determines the operation voltage and capacitance, was prepared by electrochemical oxidation process. Since a high capacitance requires a large surface area, Al is electrochemically etched in aqueous chloride solution at temperature above 60℃, and high density of etch pits are generated. Ultrasound contributes to the increase of etch pit density by prohibiting anodic oxide film formation and induces uniform tunnel length distribution by enhancing the transport of corrosion product, AlCl3, present inside etch tunnels. The effect of ultrasound on the electrochemical etching of aluminum was investigated to control the pit density and tunnel length distribution. |
