In the field of polymeric nanocomposites, aramid nanofibers have attracted extensive interests due to exceptional reinforcing efficiency. Particularly, ANF is regarded as an effective reinforcing filler in PVA-based materials on account of a high chemical affinity with PVA. In this study, the PVA/ANF nanocomposite solutions were prepared in DMSO and their rheological properties were evaluated in terms of the ANF amount. The as-prepared ANF/DMSO/KOH solution and PVA/DMSO solution were blended, and then washed in a water to remove KOH. Then, the obtained PVA/ANF powder was re-dissolved in DMSO to prepare 12 wt% solutions. According to the dynamic viscosity curves at 30 oC, the lower Newtonian flow region (LNFR) appeared in case of the neat solution, indicating high homogeneity. As the ANF content increases, however, the Bingham behavior was observed with the disappearance of the LNFR. In addition, the rheological percolation threshold of ANFs was observed at around 2.5 wt%. |
