Sulfonated polystyrene as side chains to the poly(ether sulfone)s: comb shaped polymer synthesis and characterisation |
초록 |
A class of comb-shaped polymer with sulfonated groups in the side chains is synthesized by the coupling of functionalized polymers to realise the chemical and structural features of Nafion like membrane materials and high thermal stability of polyaromatic backbone polymers. Hydrophobic rigid aromatic poly(ether sulfone) backbone and hydrophilic sulfonated polystyrene side chains in the comb-shaped polymer provides a direct control over the membrane nanostructure with distinct nano-phase separation between hydrophilic domains and hydrophobic domains. Distinct phase separation serves for better management of absorbed water for higher proton conductivity with good thermal, mechanical, and oxidative stability. These combined overall properties of the membranes propose their potential utility as electrolyte membrane in various applications. |
