To synthesize pitch matarials, pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO) was heat treated according to treatment temperature and time. The pitches were characterized by measuring their elemental composition, chemical structure of components, molecular weight distribution, and softening point. The elemental composition and chemical structure was analyzed by element analyze (EA) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The molecular weight distribution was analyzed by matrix associated laser desorption ionization - time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF). Thin-layer chromatography-flame ionization detection (TLC-FID) was performed to identify the saturated, aromatic, resin, and asphaltene (SARA) fractions to better understand the characteristics of the pitch produced during the high-temperature reaction of PFO. |
