Deep eutectic solvents (DES) which are eutectic mixtures of a quaternary ammonium salts with hydrogen bond donors have been proposed as versatile alternatives to ionic liquids, since their physicochemical properties resemble those of ionic liquids. Recently, DESs have been receiving attention as an extracting agent. In this study, DESs were prepared by mixing choline chloride(ChCl) with a glycerol or levulinic acid. The potential of the choline chloride(ChCl) based DESs for separating ethanol from the azeotropic mixtures of n-hexane and ethanol was experimentally examined at 298 K. The ternary liquid-liquid equilibrium compositions composed of DES, n-hexane and ethanol were measured and partitioning of ethanol was calculated by varying the intial compositions. |
