제목 A comparative study on anion exchanged and SILAR coated Bi2S3 over BiVO4 nanostructured photoanode for photoelectrochemical water splitting
초록 Photoelectrochemical approach for water splitting is not only an easy and economically viable but also provides a best environmentally benign way to store solar energy. Many attempts have been made to improve the current performance limit of the photoanode through water splitting ability. Herein we have fabricated the heterojunction BiVO4/Bi2S3 through the anion-exchange (AE) and the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. Deposition of Bi2S3 over BiVO4 both by AE and SILAR have been confirmed through morphological, structural and optical analysis. Structural analysis shows that the Bi2S3 grown through SILAR is highly crystalline whereas anion-exchange method reveals its amorphous nature. The deposition of Bi2S3 over BiVO4 through AE shows 1.46 mA/cm2 whereas SILAR grown Bi2S3 displays 2.25 mA/cm2 at 1V vs SCE in the 0.5 M of Na2SO4 electrolyte under one sun illumination. These values were higher than the pristine BiVO4 which is about 0.76 mA/cm2 within the same condition. Further, in-depth study have been made through Mott-Schottky and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analyses which reveals that SILAR grown Bi2S3 creates a proper heterojunction which leads to an efficient charge transfer phenomenon.
