Preparation and Characterization of Hyperbranched Polyimide Reinforced Epoxy Resin |

A novel aromatic HBPI was prepared by condensation polymerization of a commercially available dianhydride monomer with a triamine monomer. Then the obtained HBPI was applied to blend with a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A epoxy resin with different contents, and the thermal stabilities of the blends were investigated. The curing behaviors were characterized by DSC measurement. The curing reaction rate was slightly decreased with the increase of HBPI content. TGA results indicated that the blends had excellent thermal properties which may be attributed to the high thermal stability of the HBPI. The fracture toughness factor was increased with increasing the HBPI content, which should be due to the dispersed HBPI particles which acted as stress concentrations and lead to extensive shear deformation. |
