제목 Thermal and mechanical properties of epoxy resins cured via cationic copolymerization with poly(propylene glycol)
초록 Epoxy resins have been widely used for adhesives, constructions, coatings, and electronic devices due to their excellent mechanical and thermal properties. But their brittleness sometimes limited applications. So, toughening of epoxy resins has been attracting attentions. Frequently, elastomeric impact modifies are being incorporated into epoxy resins to improve toughness. We have investigated cationic copolymerization of epoxy resins with polyols to introduce flexible segments into crosslinked structure. For the cationic copolymerization of bisphenol-A epoxy resin, diol or/and triol of poly(propylene glycol)s, boron trifluoride diethyl etherate was used as a cationic initiator. Curing behaviors and thermal properties of the epoxy resins were studied employing DSC. Mechanical properties of the resins after cure were measured with UTM. It was found that increasing mono epoxy resin or diol content of the resins resulted in the retardation of cure rate and the improvement of toughness.
