Thick film sensors of WO 3 /CNT nanocomposite were fabricated by mixing multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and WO 3 particles. The effect of CNT concentration on NO 2 gas sensing properties were examined. The morphology, composition and structure of the composites were examined by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The sensing response and the optimum operating temperature were strongly affected by the composition of the nanocomposite mixtures. Compared to pure WO 3 , the addition of CNT enhanced the sensing performance at lower operating temperatures. The highest NO 2 gas response was achieved with 0.5 wt% CNT at 150 o C. The improvement in response and lowered operating temperature with the composite sensors was explained by the formation of heterojunction between WO 3 and CNT. |
