Antioxidative activities of caffeoyl-tripeptides |

Antioxidants play a critical role in treating degenerative diseases and delaying aging of dermal tissue. A representative example is caffeic acid (CA) which is one of the antioxidants found in plants. However, CA itself is not suitable for long-term storage due to its poor stability under an ambient condition. We previously reported that caffeoyl-Pro-His dipeptide (CA-Pro-His-NH2) showed the highest antioxidative activity among the histidine-containing CA dipeptides as well as a higher free-radical scavenging activity and lipid-peroxidation-inhibition activity than those of CA. We assumed that the addition of an amino acid to the C terminal of the CA-Pro-His-NH2 may synergistically enhance its antioxidative activity and long-term storage. Therefore, we synthesized twenty different caffeoyl-prolyl-histidine-Xaa tripeptides and evaluated their antioxidation activities and storages. We hope that the CA-Pro-His-Xaa-NH2 will be used as dermal therapeutic agents. |
