Soft and textile electronics have required stretchable interconnects. We adopted the bio-inspired capillary spooling of metal skin-polymer microfibers using a non-volatile liquid droplet. A capillary force is generated at the interface of a liquid droplet and microfiber. This force draws the conductive and soft microfiber into the droplet. Spontaneous spooling of the fibers does not make any mechanical fractures of the metal skins, and they are fully recovered to the original position. The robust fibers are endured 1000% strain, which leads to the excellent retention of electrical conductivity (3000 S/cm). We also designed the array of the droplet-fiber sets to demonstrate the electrical wiring of light-emitting diodes. The green LED operated stably during the spooling-relaxation cycles of the fibers. |
