PLA, bio-source from corn starch have an adequate candidate for eco-friendly plastic application with characteristics such as good mechanical properties, recyclability and low emission of harmful material. However, despite these various benefit, the poor melt property and brittleness of PLA leads to decreases the product’s performance. Herein we developed a new highly ductile PLA chain extender using ionic bonding. Acrylic-based chain extender was designed by adding tertiary amine which can form ionic bonding with COOH at terminated PLA. The brittle PLA has ductility depending on the amount of chain extender added. In addition, we found that ductile PLA can selectively return to its original mechanical property by pH or heat. The properties of the reinforced PLA was investigated by tensile testing, dynamic mechanical analysis, rheometer, FT-IR, NMR, etc. |
