The preparation of biodegradable polyurethanes (PU) has drawn large attention from past few decades due to their potential applications in biomedical materials, coatings, elastomers, adhesives and many more. However, the weak mechanical strength of PU has limited their applications. Therefore, polyurethane having good strength and flexibility is necessary and for this purpose, polylactic acid having excellent strength and polycaprolactone for flexibility were prepared. An effective way to endow polylactic acid with toughness is chain-extension reaction of the polylactic acid pre-polymer in the presence of chain extender, where, polycaprolactone is used as the flexible component. The synthesized biodegradable polyurethane is then characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, GPC, DSC and recovery properties. |
