An antireflective film is fabricated to have more advantages for light control than pre-existing film in the flexible display industry. To develop a single-layered compensator, we fabricated an X-shaped guest reactive mesogen (XGRM) which contains the conjugated backbone with two imine bonds. The single-layered compensation films were fabricated by coating process, self-assembly, and photopolymerization of the smectic host RM and XGRM mixtures with different mixing ratios. It showed that the optimized content of XGRM was 40 wt% through the optical measurements. The optimized compensation film shows the ideal molecular arrangement and negative dispersion retardation, resulted from host-guest molecular self-assembly. This work indicates importance of understanding phase and molecular orientation behaviors of the host-guest system in fabricating a single-layered compensator.
