Synchronized π-Conjugated Ordering of Semiconducting Polymer for High-Performance Organic Field-Effect Transistor |

A novel conjugated copolymer, pDPP-(TV)2B, including 1,4-bis[(E')-2-(thiophene-2-yl)vinyl)benzene (TV)2B and diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) derivatives was synthesized. The copolymer showed good solubility in solvents and strong molecular interaction during film procedures. Thin films were annealed at a temperature ranging from 150 to 300 oC for 1 h. Featureless aggregates of the face-on copolymer were dominant in as-spun film and transferred to ordered rods or fibrils containing highly edge-on polymers after annealing. In terms of π-conjugated ordering, the as-spun and 250 °C-annealed films contained highly-synchronized chains with face-on and edge-on structures, respectively. However, the resulting OFETs yielded similar mobilities of 0.07 and 0.08 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively. It suggest that the π-overlap of edge-on semiconducting polymers on gate dielectrics is not necessary to enhance the electrical performance of OFETs, in comparison to the synchronization rate of the chain ordering. |
