In this study, we designed and prepared a polymeric nanoparticle (NP) system based on rhodamin B (Rho)-labelled/curcumin-loaded beta-cyclodextrins (β-CDs) by disulfide bond formation between 1-dodecanethiol (DDT) and per-6-thiol-β-CDs as well as inclusion complexation formation between Rho and β-CDs, and evaluated its feasibility on the detection and treatment of cancers in vitro. β-CD NPs had an average size of 203 nm, as confirmed by trasmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) analyses. β-CD NPs showed no cytotoxicity below 50 g/mL against L929, clone M3, NCI-H460, and Hepa 1-6 and were rapidly internalized into the cancer cells than L929. In addition, β-CD NP-2 showed superior anticancer effect on the cancer cells, in particular Hepa 1-6. Results showed that β-CD NP-2 can be used as a theragnostic agent for effective detection and treatment of cancer cells. |
