Ultrafast Electrochemical DNA Sensing Using Host-guest Interaction between β-cyclodextrin and Ferrocene |

To detect the DNA hybridization, a variety of optical, electronic and chemical detection methods have been reported. Among these methods, electrochemical based DNA assay has unique advantages, such as rapid, high sensitive detection and low cost. Herein we report the electrochemical DNA detection using the host-guest interaction between β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) self-assembled monolayers on an Au electrode and ferrocenyl modified single strand DNA (Fc-ssDNA). The complexation ability between β-CD and Fc-ssDNA decreases upon oxidation of the Fc groups. We found that because of the diffusion of Fc-ssDNA from β-CD, the surface-confined redox current decreased. Moreover, the diffusion rate of Fc-ssDNA in β-CD largely depended on the presence of cDNA in the electrolyte. |
