Three substituted phosphorous ligands were employed for ATRP (atom transfer radical polymerization), AGET (activators generated by electron transfer) and ATRP using high oxidation states of iron metal salts without using any additives. MMA (methyl methacrylate), BMA (butyl methacrylate) and styrene were polymerized by Fe(III) metal salts with new phosphorous ligands. Most of the polymerizations with these ligands were well controlled with linear increase in the average molecular weight (Mn) with monomer consumption. The results obtained using high oxidation metal ATRP without using any additive were found better and well controlled than ATRP and AGET ATRP. In the case of DTBP ligand [2-Di-tert-butylphosphino-2′-(N,N-dimethylamino)]biphenyl, molecular weights matched the theoretical values very well and the molecular weight distributions were found narrower (<1.2) compared with other ligands. |
