Various surface treatment on porous carbon materials for electrical double layer capacitor (EDLC) has been studied to enhance its electrochemical properties. In this study, activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were electron beam (E-beam) irradiated and fabricated to electrode for EDLC. Also, effect of changed physicochemical properties of ACFs on electrochemical properties was investigated with different irradiation doses. On the ACFs surface, defects were decrease and (sp2) bonds were increased after the E-beam irradiation. The specific surface area and pore volume of the E-beam irradiated ACFs were also higher than those of the untreated ACFs. The specific capacitance of ACFs which were irradiated at 200 kGy was increased by 36 % compared with the untreated ACFs. The enhancement of the specific capacitance was attributed to an increase in their specific surface area and pore volume. |
