Size and Shape Control of Polymer particles during Emulsion Aggregation Process |

The polymer particles are extensively used in imaging and display applications. The effects of electrolyte concentrations on the particle size were investigated during the aggregation process. The particle size and shape were controlled through selection of pH, temperature and heating time or through control of the Tg and the molecular weight of the polymerized latex which is copolymers of styrene, butyl acrylate and methacrylic acid prepared by soap-free emulsion polymerization. Also, the effects of Tg and molecular weight of the seed latexes on the size and shape of the particles were investigated. As the molecular weight decreased, the shape of the particles approaches to more uniform and spherical shape. The particle size and shape was controlled by finding the optimum temperature and heating time or the Tg and the molecular weight of the seed latex. |
