Polypropylene nanocomposites were prepared by compounding modified PP (maleic anhydride-g-polypropylene ( in this study, we use Polybond (from Crompton co.) and PH200 (from Honam petrochemical co.) ) with organophilic clay modified with hexamethylene diamine (HMDA supplied from Aldrich Chem.). We confirmed the formation of characteristic amide, imide linkage and the semi-exfoliation structure between silicates layers. In the XRD measurements , they show exfoliated structure. TGA results show thermal decomposition temperature is also increased compared to virgin PP. In DSC results, we can find the heat of fusion is decreased with increasing inorganic clay contents. It’s thought that crystallization of polypropylene nanocomposites is suppressed by the clay layers. The PP nanocomposites shows higher storage modulus compared to virgin PP. |
