Oxidation behavior of Fe-15Cr-4Al Alloy at high temperatures |

We investigated the oxidation behavior of Fe-15Cr-4Al (in wt.%) alloy using the various analytical techniques. The oxidation of Fe-15Cr-4Al alloy was carried out in a conventional tube furnace at 1300°C and various time periods. The microstructure and chemical composition were observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM) / energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). In addition, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with an Al Kα source was used to determine the electronic state of Cr, Al and O after oxidation. TEM and XPS analysis confirmed that three types of oxides were observed in oxide layer. The dominant phase of oxide layer was to be Al2O3 with a small amount of Cr2O3. After oxidation for a prolonged time, it confirmed that Fe2O3 and FeCr2O4 were formed in the oxide layer in addition to Al2O3 and Cr2O3. |
