Polymerization of L-Lactide in Supercritical Carbon dioxide Using PDMS Based Stabilizers |

Poly(L-Lactide) (PLLA) was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of L-Lactide with stannous octoate as catalyst in an environmentally benign supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) using commercially available PDMS based stabilizers. Monocil PCA and ester end-capped mono hydroxy terminated PDMS were used as stabilizers. Effects of stabilizer architecture and polymerization results with concentration of stabilizer were compared. Polymers were characterized by NMR and GPC. Particle size and morphology was analyzed by SEM.Polymerization of L-Lactide in scCO2 using PDMS surfactants is proposed as a novel production technique for high-purity, biodegradable polymers for their potential application in drug delivery and other bio medical applications. |
