Bone healing effect using human demineralized bone matrix (SureFuseTM) |

Human demineralized bone matrix (DBM) has widely used as a bone graft substitute in orthopedics and dentistry. However, applications of DBM is limited without suitable carriers for DBM powder. We developed carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) based DBM graft (SureFuseTM; Hansbiomed, Korea) for dentistry and orthopedics. The objective of this study is to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of CMC based SureFuseTM with glycerol based GraftonTM (Osteotech, USA) for the treatment of bone defect 20 weeks after surgery. We assessed the analytical findings of two kinds of DBM grafts implanted into nude rat skulls with critical size bone defect with 8mm diameter. The newly formed bones were found mainly from the intact cortex into the defects bridged by the implanted grafts. Of the grafts, SureFuseTM showed better bone healing effect than GraftonTM. This study explained the reasons for bone healing effect using two kinds of human bone grafts implanted into the skulls of nude rat. |
