Among the exhaust gases from automobile, incomplete combustion materials such as hydrocarbon (HC), nitrogen oxide (NOx) are discharged. At this moment, there is a three-way catalyst, which will treat these harmful substances. But, the catalyst has a problem the catalytic reaction hardly occurs at below 300 °C, and 80% of HCs are emitted at cold-start region. So, it is important to develop a HC trap adsorbs HCs at low temperatures. We conducted Cu impregnation on BETA to use as a HC trap. The resulting Cu impregnated BETA show not only improved HCs adsorption, also oxidation at the high temperature. The adsorption is attributed to degree of exchanged Cu in BETA, while the oxidation was due to the CuO particles on the surface. Furthermore, we conducted to quantify which Cu species affect performance according to various hydrothermal treatment condition. |
