Quinine Intercalated Natural Hectorite Clay Layered Hybrid Nanocomposite for Controlled Drug Delivery Application |

The present study report the controlled drug releasing ability of natural smectite hectorite clay materials (NHT) using quinine drug. Quinine (Qu) is an antimalarial drug loaded on the natural hectorite clay mineral via cation exchange mechanism to form quinine intercalated natural hectorite nanocomposite (QNHT). All the materials were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, BET Surface area and thermogravimetric TGA/DTA analysis to study the textural and thermal stability of the pure and modified hectorite materials. Subsequently the QNHT used to carry in-vitro drug delivery release behavior of intercalated quinine drug on buffer environment with respective intestinal fluid and gastric fluid at pH =1.2 and 7.4 and also compared with pure quinine drug. On the basis of present studies it can be conclude that the QNHT nanocomposite have the potential for developing in to a controlled release formulation for oral drug delivery of an anti-malarial drug quinine. |
