We investigated growth kinetics of microalgae, Chlorella vulgaris in microdroplets consist of TAP-medium. Using microfluidic flow-focusing device with high aspect-ratio microchannel, we can evenly distribute microalgal cells and encapsulate single-microalgal cell into microdroplets. To monitor growth of single-microalgal cell, individual microdroplets were kept for a week. If we use different single microalgal mutants there are differences of cell growth among microalgal mutants. To screen microalgal mutants which have high-growth rate we have to separate the microdroplets encapsulating mutants by density difference using perpendicular flow. High-density microdroplets go straight to outlet chamber because of intertial force. |
