Thermoelectric Properties of Te-doped Mg3Sb2 Synthesized by Controlled Melting, Pulverizing Followed by Vacuum Hot Pressing |

Zintl compound Mg3Sb2 is a potential thermoelectric candidate material due to its low band gap energy and low thermal conductivity. Carrier concentration tuning by Te doping was considered in order to increase electrical conductivity for higher ZT in this study, since Te substitution in Sb site can increase carrier concentration. The samples were prepared by controlled melting, pulverizing followed by vacuum hot pressing. Phase development during the process was confirmed using X-ray diffraction, and the resultant microstructure was examined using SEM. The subsequent thermoelectric and transport properties were also evaluated and discussed. Te doping was shown to increase in electrical conductivity, leading to higher ZT value in this material system. It is also noting that Te substitution in the Sb site effectively tunes the majority carriers from holes to electrons, showing a transition from p to n-type as Te concentration is increased. |
