In this study, thermogelling behavior of poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(l-alanine)(PEG-L-PA) and poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(l-alanine)-Lauroyl(PEG-L-PA-Lauroyl) depending on alkylation of PA end group were investigated. The sol-gel transition temperature of PEG-L-PA aqueous solutions decreased from 37 to 13°C as the concentration increased from 8.0wt% to 18.0wt%. However, PEG-L-PA-Lauroyl aqueous solutions decreased from 23 to 12°C as the concentration increased from 4.5wt% to 6.5wt%. The polymer concentration with the same sol-gel transition temperature of 17℃ at 17wt% and 5.5wt% for PEG-L-PA and PEG-L-PA-Lauroyl, respectively were selected. To understand the difference in thermogelling behavior of the two polymers, 1H-NMR spectroscopy, phase diagram, circular dichroism spectra, and FT-IR spectroscopy, and rheometer were studied. Based on this data, hydrophobic modification of polypeptide can be effective to control the sol-gel transition of a thermogelling polymer. |
