제목 Simultaneous production of bioelectricity and Indium wastewater treatment in microbial fuel cell
초록 Indium tin oxide is widely used as a conductive reagent in the displays manufacturing and the demand of Indium was drastically increased. Conventional recovery of In from etching wastewater is processed by chemical process. However none was accomplished as complete recovery of metal ions in low concentration of In wastewater. In our previous study, successful removal and recovery of hexavalent chromium from electroplating wastewater was presented using microbial fuel cell (MFC). In this study, we applied MFC with bipolar membrane for In recovery with simultaneous current generation. Current generations were presented as low level but still presented significant level. Decrease of the concentration of In3+ ion in the wastewater was accompanied by current generation in MFCs. Most of Indium was precipitated not only on electrode but also bottom of MFC reactors. The results show that the MFC can be used for recovery of valuable metal resource with simultaneous electrical energy production.
