A key challenge in Mixed Matrix Membranes(MMMs) is ensuring compatibility of inorganic material with the polymer matrix. Newly synthesized polyimide named 5-(2,5-dioxytetrahydrofuryl)-3-methyl-cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride (DOCDA-PI) were used as polymer matrix for O2/N2 gas separtion. The bulky methyl group incorporated in the polymer backbone gives rise to the permselectivity lowering the permeability. Merits of porous materials were mined employing simple solution casting approach to enhance the permeability. Due to the brittle nature of the polymer, modified maxwell gas transport model were analyzed to predict the extent of filler loadings it can sustain. The result indicated that DOCDA facilitates adhesion with the inorganic filler, LTA zeolite. Tremendous increase from 12.8 to 16.2 were obtained for 10 and 20wt.% loadings in O2/N2 separtion. DOCDA-PI, being inexpensive to commerical polyimides, can be a novel material for improvement of several gas separtion performance. |
