Fabrication of g-C3N4 modified inverse opal structure column for photocatalytic degradation |

Photo-catalysis is an eco-friendly technique that emerged as a promising alternative for the degradation of many organic pollutants. In present work, the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 powder has been investigated and compared with that of inverse opal (IO) structured g-C3N4. Laboratory experiments with rhodamine B as the model pollutant have been carried out to evaluate the performance of both bulk and IO-g-C3N4 catalysts. Solar light was used as the energy source for the photocatalytic experiments. The progress of photocatalytic degradation of the rhodamine B has been observed by measuring the absorbance in UV–Visible spectrophotometer for decolourisation. The photo-degradation rate was determined for each experiment and the highest values were observed for IO-g-C3N4 suggesting that it absorbs large fraction of the solar spectrum and absorption of more light quanta than bulk g-C3N4. |
