The highly π-extended donor-acceptor (D-A) alternating copolymer containing rigid and planar backbone has a potential to low-band gap polymer owing to efficient intramolecular charge transfer and enhanced intermolecular interaction. In D-A copolymer systems, the alternation of alkyl side chain in donor and/or acceptor can affects intermolecular interaction, molecular orientation and morphology of polymer backbone in solid state, which could affect significantly the properties of organic electronic devices. In this work, we synthesized a series of dithieno[3,2-b:2’,3’-d]thiophene-diketopyrrolopyrrole (DTT-DPP) alternating copolymers with different alkyl side chains. We analyzed the fundamental characteristics of the new DTT-DPP polymers such as optical, electrochemical, and thermal properties. As modified size and length of alkyl substituents anchored to an acceptor, we studied the effect of alkyl chain length/bulkiness on charge transport properties and photovoltaic performance. |
