Mixed-matrix membrane(MMM),whereinorganic fillers are dispersed in a polymer matrix, has been recentlydeveloped membrane materials. Among inorganicmaterials studiedin MMM, zeolite has shown promising potentials as a fillerinvarious gas and liquid separations. However,nonselective voids originated from poor interfacial contact between the thepolymer interface and zeolite are stillthe main challenge in preparation of MMM. To overcomethis problem, a wide range of surface modification on zeolite fillers has beenmade to enhance polymer-filler interactions. Motivated by this, we synthesizedzeolite@MOF core-shell structure as a filler for MMM where encapsulatedzeolite playsa role to provide selective diffusion pathways while MOFprovidesinterfacial bonding with polymer matrix without nonselective voids. As a result,improvedseparationperformance ofLTA@UiO-66/PI MMMs comparingtopurePImembranewere obtained. |
