Collodial magnetic particles have become important materials for their unique properties of magnetorheological (MR) behavior, in which the MR fluid is capable to be solid-like with an external magnetic field and be liquid-like removing the magnetic field reversibly. In this study, we prepared organic/inorganic composite particles with PMMA polymer and Iron(Ⅲ) oxide (Fe2O3) magnetic particles for applying MR fluid. These composite particles were synthesized by Pickering emulsion polymerization. In this method, the solid particles are used as solid surfactants, being adsorbed onto the interface between oil and aqueous phase instead of established organic surfactants. PMMA/Fe2O3 particles were successfully fabricated, being stabilized by Fe2O3 nanoparticles forming o/w emulsion. Morphology and chemical component of the products were examined, along with magnetorheological properties characterized by a rotational parallel disk rheometer. |
