Magnetite (Fe3O4)/ polypyrrole (PPy) core-shell microspheres were synthesized by a facile fabrication method, in which the PPy was filled in the interior of the Fe3O4. The surface and interior of Fe3O4 were decomposed by H+ ions, and Fe3+ ions were released. As soon as pyrrole monomer entered into the interior of the Fe3O4, the PPy was synthesized. The surface of Fe3O4/PPy microspheres was observed by scanning electron microscopy and the interior of of Fe3O4/PPy microspheres was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. With both magnetic and electric properties of Fe3O4/PPy microspheres, Fe3O4/PPy microsphere–based fluid showed both electrorheological and magnetorheological properties when measured by using a rotational rheometer under an applied electric and magnetic field, respectively. |
