Zeolite membrane for high purity sulfur hexafluoride gas: Experimental analysis and CFD simulation |

In this study, a 2D axisymmetric CFD simulation model was employed to predict the potential of SAPO-34 and MFI zeolite membranes for separating sulfur hexafluoride(SF6) gas from nitrogen(N2). Concept of both Navier-stokes and diffusion of chemical species equation were implemented to reasonably forecast the concentration and distribution of gas flow through the membrane. Experimental analysis was additionally conducted to determine the effect of flow rate, pressure, and thickness of membrane on the separation performance. CFD result based on SF6 mole fraction at the retentate side was equated to compare the performance of the membranes. As a result, MFI membranes were found to be best suited for high purity SF6 gas (>99.8%). It was also possible to obtain comparable performance for SAPO-34 applying low feed flow rate. |
