Synthesis of mesoporous ferrierite (FER) zeolite by using desilication method was applied to increase the surface area and number of acidic sites in order to improve catalytic activity and stability. The mesoporous FER can enhance the diffusion of reactants with suppressed coke depositions. In the present study, the desilicated and recrystallized mesoporous FER was prepared by using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as an organic structure-directing agent. After hydrothermal synthesis and ion exchange, the FER containing mesopores with the pore size of 20 - 50 nm enhanced the DME conversion to 46.7 % and MA selectivity to 99.2 %. The increased OH groups (Brønsted acid sites) and mesoporosity were responsible for an enhanced catalytic activity with less deactivation, which were determined by pyridine FT-IR the mesoporous FER zeolite. |
