제목 Oxidative treatment of municipal wastewater effluent for trace organic contaminant abatement and disinfection
초록 Municipal wastewater effluents contain various chemical and biological contaminants. Ozonation or UV/H2O2 treatment has recently been tested as an enhanced wastewater treatment technology. Significant elimination of various contaminants could be achieved by ozonation or UV/H2O2 treatment and chemical kinetics approaches were found to be useful in predicting the abatement efficiencies. Deactivation efficiency of antibiotic resistant genes by chlorine, ozone, UV, and UV/H2O2 was tested using recombinant E. coli hosting plasmids encoding ampicillin and kanamycin resistant genes and an extended amplicon-length qPCR assay for determining ARG damage events. The tested processes could achieve significant deactivation of the model ARG but requires higher oxidant or UV dose than for disinfection. Ozonation of some wastewater effluents was shown to generate significant concentration of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). Some strategies to mitigate the NDMA formation will be discussed.
