제목 An environmentally friendly process to fabricate precipitated calcium carbonate nano-power (PCC) from waste seashells at room temperature without releasing CO2 gas
초록 About a million tons of calcium carbonate powder is produced every year worldwide.  The powder is used as filler material for paper, paint, rubber, plastic and many other food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. Higher purity calcium carbonate powder is manufactured by calcining mined limestones.  The calcination is done usually at high temperatures above 800 degree C, which results in releasing CO2 gas into the air.  The CO2 released during calcination worldwide amounts to as much as 10 million tons.  On the other hand, there have been many attempts to recycle waste seashells, but no large scale application has been successfully commercialized. The seashells are made of 99% calcium carbonate platelets and 1% organic material. Previous attempts involved high temperature calcination.  We have successfully developed a room temperature process to make precipitated calcium carbonate powder from waste seashells.  The CO2 released during the process was captured and used again in precipitation of calcium carbonate powder.  Our powder has much higher purity than commercially precipitated powder made from mined and calcined limestones.  Our recycling of CO2 in the process is very attractive for production due to low energy consumption and clean process.
