Effect of microcurrent stimulation on osteoblastic proliferation |

Microcurrent exists in human body and various cell and tissue responses are accompanied by the applied electric stimulations. These responses will be closely coordinated with various life phenomena. The nervous system manipulates human thoughts and behaviors through typical electrical stimulations. If our understanding of the effect of microcurrent stimulation on cellular behaviors is expanded, it will be greatly helpful in the development of various medical devices. There are already commercial products in the market uitilizing electrical stimulation for skin care. In this study, osteoblasts were cultured in a 3D porous scaffold and observed cellular response against electric stimulations. The scaffold was fabricated using a biocompatible polymer and salt leaching method, and the levels of cell proliferation according to microcurrent stimulations were quantified using a CCK-8 assay. Our result indicated that microcurrent stimulation enhanced the proliferation of osteoblast. |
