제목 Oxidation-carbonylation catalyst for phosgene-free dicarbamates synthesis: a novel catalytic methodology that overcomes the formation of the poly-urea intermediates
초록 The diisocyanates, essential precursors for the polyurethane synthesis, have conventionally synthesized via phosgenation, which is exceptionally toxic and corrosive HCl is caused. The oxidative carbonylation seems a promising pathway for direct dicarbamate synthesis in that the carbamate decomposition can produce isocyanate without corrosive and toxic chemicals. However, it has been stagnated for three decades owing to the insoluble/unreactive poly-urea intermediate that has stifled the dicarbamate synthesis. 

 In this work, to study the mechanism systematically, we have separated the methanol substitution reaction from the direct dicarbamate synthetic process at which oxidative carbonylation was carried out and designed a Pd/CeO2 catalyst to apply various dicarbamate synthesis. We have successfully synthesized dicarbamates from various types of alcohols under significantly mild conditions (5 bar) compared to those reported previously.
