Role of film thickness and varying thermal history on the ferroelectric characteristics of P(VDF-TrFE)(72/28) copolymer thin films |

P(VDF-TrFE)(72/28) copolymer films of varying thicknesses were subjected to different thermal annealing conditions and the changes in their ferroelectric crystalline content were studied using FTIR transmission and GIRA spectroscopy. GIRAS data were quite useful in identifying the dipole and chain orientation changes. As-cast and then annealing the samples just above their Curie temperature (Tc) was found to be best suitable method for preparing samples with maximum dipole orientation along the poling direction. Changes in Tc as a function of thickness and changes in chain orientation on the substrate were also analyzed during heating and cooling cycle and the results obtained from this study will enable us in the fabrication of P(VDF-TrFE) based high density non-volatile data storage devices.
